Ap Biology Lab 8 Pre Lab

My work:

was envisioned that I would at a Junior High School, the specialist ICT (Information and Communication Technology), that computer teaching, teach. I had been to Germany made contact with another volunteer who has taught in Ghana at the same junior high school. He could give me a very good picture of the situation on the ground. Once in Ghana, I was told that I ought to go to another school, namely a Senior High School of Business. In the higher grades, the students are of legal age, and thus only slightly younger than me. You will tell me anyway respect as any other teacher. A white man gives you general information here, a little more attention and respect.

found on the first day at school instead of an overall teacher conference. They told me I should come by 8 clock. In the staff room I've talked with some teachers, to the Conference at 10:30 clock finally began. Fortunately, the conference was only in English and I could almost understand everything. Amusing to me was that honestly every 5 min in the room a cell phone rang and the person to make phone calls just left the room. Eventually, it was also the Head Master (Rector) too much and he asked that the phones the next time to put on silent. Ten seconds later rang his own Phone and he took the call even - the laugh was big. During the conference, he himself was called three or four times. discussed dealt with until all issues were durchzusprechenden, it withdrew, as always. Some teachers also went too long and they wrote messages with their mobile phones, exchanged numbers, or read newspapers. As you clock up 14 could finally find a point, there was at the expense of the school to eat something for everyone. After I clarified a few things with my contact person, I was allowed to go home. Thus ended my first "working day" ...

In the following days the first week it was no different. I came to school, talked a bit with the teachers and went on again two hours later. I was told that in the first week of a new school year, the timetable is constructed, and most students still are not at school. Therefore, the real lessons begin until the second week of school - in this case, it was only Thursday. In the meantime, there was a Department-meeting (a meeting of the fan network, which also includes ICT). To address was that the rector would actually provide more money for computers in the school. It was also discussed that many teachers have no money for training. Only one teacher was out of school for financial support. Every detail has been recorded and written by hand in a large book. For this reason, the meeting moved unnecessarily long. At the end of the number of teaching hours was announced. I was to teach 17 hours. Spread over five weekdays, which acts not much, but I would take over the entire graduating classes. These are compact their ICT hours on Thursdays and Fridays of the week. So I had in the first weeks of Monday through Wednesday off and for Thursdays and Fridays, eight hours. At my school there are between the hours of classes a break. Only between the 3rd and 4 and between the 7th and are 8 hour it a half-hour break. If so you have to go to the bathroom, has is a problem. The toilet is located at a 5 min walk from my classroom. I swapped

For a few hours with my ICT colleagues had and was able to straighten my schedule, I am relatively happy with my project.
- Of course the circumstances. Some things are going well here obviously wrong. The use of batons, even for students who are underage, as a theme. Legally it is forbidden, but that is adhered to as little as the correct speed limit in Germany. A major problem is the lack of materials. The seats in the classes are too small for the students. There are few textbooks for the students, and if there are any, they are of very poor quality
(the material and content). The lines in the exercise books of the students seem to be pulled by hand. The gap is even bigger, even smaller. Especially to my school subject is to say that there are far too few computers. Normally, each class should have two ICT lessons during the week. Because of the limited number of computers, the classes (50 students) divided into two parts and thus we are left with a lesson. Despite the breakdown in part of four students sitting in front of a computer. Not every class can have ICT lessons, because, first, the room overcrowding, and secondly there with me only four ICT teachers.

The only thing that makes me to create in the school, is for the students (repeat senior year) and bad English can not understand some simple instructions. I think they are often not clear from the type of teaching, as I believe him. They are used to being in the smallest detail vorkaut them all and they just copy copy / need. If you expect a little initiative, they are swamped. The curriculum includes a variety of applications with Word and Excel. Today I wanted them to create newspaper articles, columns in Word. For this purpose they should first create a text and to keep it simple, I left them a report write about any animal. After 15 minutes had some just the heading and a half set. This was certainly not due to a difficulty with the computer. Many have problems regardless of a user manual to make something.
A teacher showed me the exam papers of last year. They were all Multiplechois issues. So I was already clear that they are not used to write my own text. The teachers just need a better education. At a Senior High School at least they are studying. The teachers at a junior high school are graduates of senior high school, without additional training.

Outside of teaching you will receive in school quite nice. The teachers meet in their free time usually under a large tree in the schoolyard. The bench under the tree is nearly always. Not that the teachers had as many free hours. In Ghana, the teacher every day but go to school, even if they did not have classes in one day. If another teacher is not there, they take lessons. Only some teachers have a part time job and work on their days elsewhere. Especially the teachers at a junior high school earn very little and have to feed this need for a family. They earn as much as I by my organization as "pocket money" to get ...

My Town (Agona Swedru)

If you get into the city center seems to look like every corner, for every five yards is a state of similar sold. The only major orientation haunted are the gas stations. Here are the transportation hub, where it has the only traffic lights in the city. The buildings are going through almost one story and they do not differ much from each other. Man sets is not much value to the external appearance of a house. Many shops can be found only by chance, as they often have no duties to name tags. There is rarely a real general store. Typical items are either dresses, fabric, household items or food stalls. For dining, there are usually fried in fat yam or potato pieces with a chalice schafer sauce. If you want something better, you also get rice with stew (brown sauce and fish) or different fruit What I first noticed recently is that it's considered bad manners when you eat on the run. In that sense, I've been here often behaved badly. But in Ghana are certain behaviors for us Europeans "strange" to say the least ...

By the time you are immunized against the constant shouts of the people when a road running down. In order not to seem rude, I got used short wave, which is not too tiring to constantly repeat it. If you investigate each one makes cries himself only problems. Every little small talk and makes connecting to a quasi-boyfriend. The next time you meet the person, will only turn up right, that greets you and leads a discussion. Is this the 10 people on the morning commute, one can have the very annoying. I can understand the Ghanaians to this behavior already. It is firstly to their mentality very open and friendly to be. Second, it must be very boring to stand all the time in a stand and to wait for a customer. In addition, there is something special to have a white person as a friend.
However, not even a small talk is targeted and the first words "Give me money" or "coins" (coins) are still by my side from the (not too strenuous, short) wave.
But you need a self-help, you can really ask anybody on the road running around people. If you want to buy something, one is also liked to show the way where you can buy it. One day I was shaving powder (~ Rasierpuder) and asked to buy a booth, where there would be this. Faster than I could see, the seller ran away and brought me a can it. The crux of this kindness was that he wanted to sell it to me four times the price.

Although the city is rather small, the streets from morning to evening full of cars and people. Private cars are barely visible, but many taxis and Trotros. The Trotros means of transport for some longer distances and are of size comparable to a minivan. One enters through a side door and sits at fourth in a row (although the place is normally meant only for 3 people). Beside the door is the "mate" who cares about the money. At some point during the trip will be paid and if it has not fit, you get the latest when getting his change back. Only in larger excursions, for example, in the capital will get a hand-written ticket, which must be paid before the trip. In general, driving a los Trotro until it is full. This may take from time to time just two hours. Another problem is if you want to travel in larger groups. Until you find a car, for example, has six seats free, just might take a while. The waiting time until a Trotro drives off, amounts to a shorter but before than it is. Through the windows of a water bag, bread, sweets and be sold from time to handkerchiefs. Often you come up with some interesting Ghanaians in conversation, which had been to the U.S. or Europe. You can tell the people also said that they tell not only simply to get attention. With them you can have a good time on policy issues in Ghana. When it finally starts, be to the taxi, people stopped and recorded. The side door seems to always be claimed by a lot because they are in many Trotros not close properly and must be of material recorded. One last sentence to the Trotros: The trips are very uncomfortable, because it is quite shaken, has no leg room and has a permanent smell of exhaust fumes in the nose. In my case I can not even enjoy the scenery, I too big and I am therefore not much can look out the window.

The appearance of the city center at night is very different. Although the streets are still full and honking taxis clog the streets, there is a different atmosphere. There are no street lights, so every class is equipped with a type of candle. The air has hardly cooled, but there is no sun, it is compared to the day, pleasantly warm. Since so many people on the streets are on the road, you need to not be robbed fear. Only at night to go home alone should be avoided, since outside of the center and fewer people on the streets and you see nothing without a flashlight can. Not to be neglected are the mosquitoes that are active at night. I had until now no malaria, but gradually it meets any one time.

The description of my town you can actually be transferred to almost any other city in the southern part of Ghana. There are no real places in a city that stand out, except a few old relics of the colonial period, on the coast.

Java Swing Image Movement

Short News! A normal working day

times I put a short summary in the blog, what is going on here:

Autumn is in big steps and does most noticeable in the misty cold mornings. With the sweater and long pants I usually go out of the house, the T-shirt and rolled up legs I call it a day :-) One of our current projects, to paint the roof of the office, as it has done every year. Just stupid, that we started with the wrong color (black), and Pepe then noticed that it ought to be silver. The next day we painted the ceiling then in half again in the original silver color but we went from the color and we started the weekend :-) Before that, we still have profesores made watertight with a tarpaulin my car for the weekend-to-time rains increasingly often, what our olive trees and the whole plant life here comes in the more arid interior to very good.

The olive harvest awaits us, about 1800 trees to be harvested. With the almond harvesting in August, we were 8 people for about 850 trees, but now we get reinforcement that we are eagerly awaiting. This weekend, scores from a troupe of helpers Switzerland, one led by the director of last year, Elisabeth. Detachment of the 12 then the next group of 20 people Mr. Overkamp.

The work schedules were adjusted for one or another of the daily routine has changed again, generally for the better. Here you can see that much is new and the Directorate has to familiarize himself. When we are at the beginning also been skeptical on the other hand, I must say from my side, I developed through discussions and approaches a certain respect for the Directorate.

Be a few days are determined, the official "winner" of the pulmino tests: Clemens and Frank have been under the 5 drivers beat the best. On Friday we explored

a new bar near our gym, and made many Italian acquaintances!

Yesterday (Saturday) we all have together prepared a meal for our guests from Switzerland, pictures speak louder than words to spare and my writing:-D

Today (Sunday) we were in Agrigento and have looked at the temple complex are running around in the city were forced to find food from a host in his overpriced restaurant food, there are now and then drank coffee shop, back home Sebastian's birthday present prepared, prepared food and are just at the party :-)

Our Journey to the intermediate seminar is fast approaching, the secretary Angela takes us from planning the larger part, the Servizio even stretches out the travel expenses! be reached so easily is not the place apparently, from what I experienced yesterday, we have to take the bus to Palermo, from there we fly with Ryanair to Pisa, from there with various trains and buses to our final destination: Chianti, Monteriggioni in Florence. We are looking forward again at the other Italy / Sicily Volunteer!

As far as the latest from here, next time plays a more contiguous test

:-) Ciao a presto!

How To Do Extensions On White Hair

My surroundings

In front of our house is a small vegetable garden, where my family grows a few plants. Furthermore, We have two small Hünerställe. In one European are chickens that are let out, almost never. They told me that they are taking when they eat the dirt lying around. In the second chicken coop, African chicken, which accounts for nothing. The valves are almost always run around outside. Now and then they quarrel and chase each other around the house. If the dog is still interfering with the chaos is perfect. After such an action is the floor full of feathers and droppings. But since being swept every morning, is not that bad. To sweep the way, a bundle of branches of a plant is used. Depending on the use of the broom is put together or spread out. He is only 50 cm long, you have to bend down quite far already. At least one has thus a good morning exercise.

In my neighborhood, my neighborhood, is compared to the city center very quiet. It is a development area, are the numerous shells. Since in Ghana are almost no state-sponsored housing initiatives, to build it themselves, and indeed, in the truest sense of the word, piece by piece. At the beginning you buy first stone. If, again, a little money is available, you can build a small part of the foundation, etc. Thus, a design attracts usually over many years. For this reason, I suppose that in the 12 months that we will stay here not much will change. We will see ...
20 years ago was in this area, dense forest was untouched. By population growth and associated urban development, a lot of burning took place. Today there are only a few bushes and trees palmenatige, but they are not much bigger than I. So it is here quite clear.

To reach the city, you must pass a few narrow trails, let the many "house ruins" behind and finally comes to a slightly greater distance. This will take you pass the Unique Senior High School, in his students, I am already well known. I try always go by unnoticed, but what works almost never. After a bit of small talk can go on one again. The students have already accepted the fact that they get from me no phone number and I do not usually want to stay long with them. Only a few steps you have a wide view, down the road that leads to the center after Swedru. On this street, which paved the way, is relatively good, you have to take only the possibility of a taxi, or walk. bring the road to walk behind him, would take about three quarters of an hour, and in light of some very hot sun is already the cab comfortable. The taxi drivers here, you can also not compare with that in Germany. It is the normal means of transport for shorter rod and can rather be compared to bus travel. The price for a ride into town is 35 pesewas (22 cents). The taxis are almost all Asian small cars because they are much cheaper than European cars. Despite the narrow interior, driving in extreme cases up to 6 people - not the driver in the calculation. Buckle up is just not on, but not general practice.

While driving people constantly are sold or collected. If a person is standing on the roadside and the driver is treated as a potential passenger, he stretched out his hand and honk a few times. Will this person also ride really, it also raises his hand. If the taxi is actually full, it goes faster. The drivers are not afraid to overtake. Rather, they are constantly trying and often create a dangerous traffic situation. At least is when overtaking and honking. We can already see, a horn in a car is more important than a seat belt.
In the next blog post I tell you a little about life in the city.

My Testical Hurts Up In Stomach

After the first month ...

Life in the house I have already described, but somewhat incomplete. Did I mention
that we have running water and electricity? Well, the radio and television, of which I written, but failed to conduct electricity is hard. I would have said only once.
It's nice that the water for showering does not need to get from a well. Only now and we need to fill the two large 100-liter barrels in the kitchen and get to buckets of water from the water in front of the house. Until now we had only four days without water and even a brief power outages. The power supply in Ghana is covered almost entirely by the hydropower plants on the Volta lake. Since we currently have the rainy season, enough water is present. In the dry season, which lasts roughly from November to February, water and electricity outages occur more frequently. But it is not so, that in the rainy season rains every day - sometimes twice a week. This is almost always a dense cloud cover in the sky. The temperature is constant between 23-28 ° C. In the dry season it is wiedrum blue sky from morning to night and have really hot. So much about ...

A few other little things that affect you but in daily life in the family, I have not mentioned. An unusual event is that it is in the house are not hanging mirror. To shave, take a small hand mirror and goes to the house. Most Ghanaians have a very modest growth of beard, so they probably do not use shaving cream. I use at least a little soap and go for shaving in the bathroom or in the shower. There, I hang the mirror on a nail in the door, which at first was not so easy. The first problem was that the nail is too thick the mirror for the eye. So I used a defective headphone cable to make a loop. The second problem was that the nail was bent and eventually fell out. Since puts a new nail in the door, manages the shave.
Another striking feature in the budget relates to this time not the bathroom but the toilet. You throw the toilet paper that is not in the bathroom but in a small bucket next to it - and make it clear to make small and large businesses. The reason for this is the sewage system, which is not blocked by toilet paper probably can withstand. The paper in the bin is emptied from time to time and thrown into a trough behind the house. There it is burned with the rest of the household garbage. There are generally no garbage collection, and even in the city is found only very rarely a dustbin.

Certain things have changed compared to the beginning, too. At the beginning I found the noise extremely disturbing, now I have a little used to it. This may be because I broke the malaria prophylaxis and I therefore tend to be slightly fitter feel. Even the strict Fishy smell in the kitchen I guess was not so much. Other new additions, however, is a pungent musty smell of our room. It is difficult to describe him. It is certainly unpleasant. Since it was not so hot in recent days, we had the most fan of. Therefore, the air is in the room and I think that the smell comes from the clothes in garment bags. Perhaps also on the pillow of my host brother, which he used without the cover and even slightly moldy look.
have in one of my previous blog entries I wrote, that everyday life in the family will probably be different when school starts. There have, however, changed a few things. In the morning the family goes almost simultaneously out of the house (to Shortly after seven). My host sisters and my host father come between 15 und 16 clock back, the mother usually a few hours later. While they are away from home, the TV is of course - the radio, however, as the grandparents are still there. For this reason, it has never really completely at home in peace. Not even at night. My host brothers and sisters are often used in order to learn. And that same night by 3 or 4 clock. I like this but usually gets little or nothing with, because the TV (which will run alongside) to be set on silent or very quiet. From what one is more aroused when the host mother sometimes leaves the house at night to go to Accra. This wakes her namely My host brother, who opens for them the three castles on the screen in front of the door and has to close behind her. This is but thankfully only once a week.
The number of housemates in the house has now also increases. In a free room I had before noticed it did not really, two teachers have moved. They work in the nearby Swedru Secondary School, which is why it is beneficial for them, here to rent a room. They are about about 30 years old and it's always nice to to talk to them. Unfortunately, they are very busy and they rarely get to see.
How I learned the other day I will be in October, a further move into the White family. This was apparently planned for a long time but I have noticed only by chance. What they do not even exactly when in October he will join us and what country he comes from. They only know that he comes from a English-speaking - probably England or Australia. My host brother will soon be living in the school dormitory. Thus, the other white will draw instead of my host brother to my room. If we have the room for us, hopefully we can redecorate a bit and reduce the clutter something ...

Home Decorations Croscill Pattern

7:00 Clock I get up, make me ready
7:30 clock breakfast with other "early birds" (mostly Clemens, Sebastian, Anna) bind
8:00 clock shoes, fetch water from the fridge and go! But more and piano piano ...

work from 8:00 to 12:00 and I either Clemens or together with Rosario / Luigi / Pepe. With an investment in the order of the Servizio Cristiano is there to do just always something-sometimes we find ourselves already, even when thinking about how we could improve things here and there. The nice thing is you can see the result of his work day after day, no matter in what area.

from 12:00 to 14:00, we have both lunch break, after the meal at 0:30, we usually sleep :-)

from 14:00 to 17:00 we start again, after that evening!

[Clemens' and my current "project" is to be wearing a Riessen rubble pile behind the school with a shovel, wheelbarrow and Ape, by the way we renovate nor the room for Laura]

will from now on once a week a discussion with our Director place where we can voice our concerns. We also get Italian lessons twice a week, our schedule is filling up gradually :-)

Especially because we have thanks to Zoran finally found the Palestra (gym). It is not particularly large, but pretty much all devices are available, which I also am used to from home. Zo has practically a whole group organized by one or two days running around in the Servizio and the word "Palestra" has heard at least 5 times. So it happens that we TRACE in the group ride / or employees from the Servizio hits the spot. Otherwise

soon as an official trip to Servizio Cristiano to Siracusa, on whom we are all looking forward! We have not seen much of the island, but now that the Plaza is not as busy as in August / September so we can concentrate on the discovery of the island Pullminoschein Vorrausgesetzt. The two of us probably do next Week.

otherwise there not much new .. I will soon make again pictures online!

A presto!
